What is this "Ask Me Anything?"
I want to share my passion for photography as well as create transparency between my clients and me, so on the 26th of every month, I will drop a post asking for questions on my IG and Facebook, and then on the 27th of each month, I'll answer them.
These questions can be about my editing process, approach to taking photos, dealing with clients, balancing passion with family, pricing, etc.
The best way to connect and get others into this art is to be wide open about what life is like and who the person is.
I view it the way I see a Farmer's Market: I'm not buying the cheapest honey or candles; I'm giving my money to the people I connect with and those on a mission I support.
These AMAs (Ask Me Anythings) are my way of letting you see the person behind the camera and hopefully removing any confusion you have about the craft of photography as well.
The Questions
1. What camera do you use?
Camera: Sony A7iii
Lens: 70-200 G-Master OSS II
2. What's your favorite thing to photograph?
Hands down, sports.
I love taking photos of everything; anyone who has seen me wandering downtown has likely seen me take a picture of anything from a bench or flag to animals and cars...
Sports are what I love to be around with my camera the most.
3. What do you do with your free time besides photography?
I'm an active "homebody";
I love being around my wife and kids; they're my favorite people in the world, but as far as what I do for myself:
- Read Books
- Lifting Weights
- Train with the kids for their sports
- Play with my dogs, cats, and turtles
- Write for TheDailyDraftNewsletter.com

4. Do you use presets?
I do not.
Everything you see has been created by me; my editing style is my own, and in the future, I do plan to sell my presets as I love them, and many others seem to appreciate my approach to editing photos.
5. How do we know what games you'll be at?
You don't unless someone books me to cover a team or individual athlete.
This has been an issue since I started covering games, which is why I offer the "Athlete in Focus" photos as an option. Anyone can book me for an event where they know an individual athlete or team will be covered, depending on their selection.
The games I've attended have primarily been based on my schedule and desire; if I'm booked, I'll be there.
This is why I'm trying to get individuals to book early; as the demand grows, the options to secure a spot will shrink. I love capturing content at the middle school and high school, but I'm looking to take this to Rec leagues, Travel Ball Leagues, Colleges, and Professional leagues so the hope is those who want me at a specific game are going to hop in and book me and not just hope I can make it.
6. Do you take photos of people outside of Belhaven?
Yes.
I'm open to traveling anywhere to take photos; the thing is that long-distance travel (over 30 minutes) comes with an added cost to cover gas/travel.

7. I’m curious about your creative process as a landscape photographer; how do you go about selecting the locations you shoot? Do you extensively research beforehand or prefer to explore and discover new places on the go?
It’s a two-fold answer:
1) Most of my landscape photography is of places I’ve seen or driven by that captured my attention. I will usually set a mental note to go back at some point and photograph it.
2) I will look up certain places or landmarks, then decide on what “type” of photo I want, then I’ll go and let the place “speak to me,” and from there, I’ll know the angle and photo I’m going for.
8. Do you do weddings?
I am not a wedding photographer, but if someone liked my style of event coverage, they'd love my work capturing the candid moments of their weddings.
I will never be the guy looking to make sure we had photos wth the aunts and in-laws, but I will be the guy who is capturing the intimate moment of guests and the bride/groom.
Could I photograph a wedding? Yes.
Am I the right guy for your wedding? You'd know it based on my work.
I love people, I love love, and I love seeing families created, but I love my art enough not to ever try to change it to fit a model that exists in the wedding industry; if I captured a wedding, it would be a very "Zac" styled wedding photography session/edit.
